Alphabet and Our Father

This past weekend, Michael sang the 'whole' alphabet song. Even though he adds a bunch of extra 'E's and replaces 'JKL' with 'MNOP-OP!', he did the whole song on his own.

Last week, we found out he IS actually paying attention to prayers at night, because he had the key words for about the first half of the 'Our Father'. He also added 'Chrys'(he doesn't have the 'T' yet) to 'Jesus' at Mass.

Today, he started adding a Spanish word to his current obsession by saying "Pelota!" to his established conversation about "Baseball. Boots. Home run!" from Dora the Explorer baseball video. He is our little sponge.
And they call him 'The Streak!'  Oogaly Boogaly...

All because I asked him to try on some new shoes after bath time...

Good news from the Dentist yesterday morning... his teeth wiggle only as much as regular teeth should!  His left front tooth will be gray.  But wahoo, good news!  Oh and he is cleared for straws, biting food, and no more medicated mouthwash on Q-tips to hold Michael down!  Yah!

Fun thing from today...
We were walking to get the mail, and Michael was looking for ants, as he often does on our walks outside.  And we found this one ant, all by itself, wandering around in a chaotic pattern.  I commented to Michael that the ant doesn't know which way to go.  His response to me was, "MAP!"  If you know anything about Dora the Explorer and her faithful friend, Map, you will catch his reference.

Over the last 2 weeks, Michael has been using 2 word sentences and working on stringing multiple words into sentences/conversations. His 2 fav ideas to talk about are, 'cross guads, ding, ding, ahead, watch out, window, YAAAY, no train' and 'bas ball, hit it, ball, bat, Johnson (our friend on mommy's softball team), hit, soff ba (softball), run, made it'.  He CONSTANTLY talks.

He had his last day of school on Tuesday and we went to school for the End of School pot luck today.  His teacher, Ms. Tracie, his biggest comfort person at school, was there.  Others from his class, Ms. Kellie, Ms. Cristina, Ms. Margaret, Jacob, Tommie, Ryder and I am sure, Sophia, and Kiara were there as well.  He had a good time. We will miss them all over the summer :(  Ms. Tracie said he could come visit, and maybe should to keep him accustomed to school. Everyone that we talked to was sad he wouldn't be back until August.  They really love what they do and all the teachers always have arms and kisses waiting for these kids.

On the porcelain front, little man is really working hard on potty training.  He much prefers daddy to mommy to put him on the potty for daytime, at home trips. Which is somewhat frustrating, because momma is still the one home with the little (screaming) man most often. But things are definitely improving.  In fact, we have been working on big boy underwear during the day.  Really only 2 days, honestly. The first day was this Monday. We adventured with undies from about 9am to nap time around 1pm, including a trip to HEB.  That morning was all with the same pair of undies; in the afternoon, momma washed about a half dozen undies and shorts. Today, the morning was too much out and about in the morning to push the issue, but from after nap time around 3:45pm until bath time around 7:30pm, he kept the same pair of undies. And that included 7x #1's and 1x #2, which he went to the potty and called 'tee tee' & 'poop' for 2 separate visits.  He is really growing up fast.

Until next time...

Mother's Day 2012

My little boy's presents to me... A rollie pollie, a dandelion, and a rock. I was surprised it wasn't a 'spent' dandelion. Those are his favorite to give to me :)

I also got a big bag, that I asked for, a "Squeeze the Day"-lemon to lemonade shirt, and cookies from my boys.  My day was good, because even though my boys were a bit under the weather, they did there best to stay in good spirits.  I am very blessed.

Mother's Day 2012

We went to eat at a local Taqueria. Michael provided entertainment for us and the waitresses;) He truly should have been our honeymoon baby. He has always loved Mexican style music.

Michael had another "check up" on Wednesday, April 18.  He went to Austin Children's Dentistry a pediatric specialist to have his front teeth checked.  This came about because he popped his front teeth/lip on a playground pole the previous Thursday (4/12/12). Michael and Mommy rode our bike/trailer over to the park to play and meet up with the Johnson gals.  He was sitting on a step and went to go up again and missed either footing or hand placement and met the 3"round pole square in the mouth. We heard a pop and then the blood and tears ensued for a good 10 minutes.  He was able to calm down, and play a bit more at the playground for about 40 more minutes.  On the ride home, he tried to drink water and eat some cantaloupe.  That proved to be ok but not such a great idea.  He kept bleeding until about supper time but then he was bleeding during the night and the next morning.  So, we tried to get an appointment with Austin Children's on Friday but they close at noon and we couldn't get him there when they had an opening.  Then between scheduling, insurance issues and Momma not pushing to get going, we finally went to the dentist on Wednesday, April 18th.  He did pretty well for an 18 month old on his first dental visit.  The results, the 2 front teeth are not viable, and we are hoping the ligament will tighten up to hold the teeth in.  To do that, no "pas" (pacifier), no straws, no nursing.  All of a sudden our baby boy has to become a big boy.  Thankfully, we were actually working him away from the pacifier and he was only nursing 1 or 2 times a day and frequently skipped days when we were busy. So, for the next week, brushing teeth twice a day and "Q-tip" with "special medicine" (medicated mouthwash) for the front teeth. Unfortunately, his left front tooth is kinda gray already.  We follow up with the dentist on the 25th.  Prayers for no infection and no need for pulling the teeth are appreciated.
From Mommy-
Michael now knows about 1/4 or 1/3 of the alphabet by sight or sound.  He can either find when we ask or he can tell us when we point to a letter.  S, T, O, and P remain his favorite and most common 'correct' letters.  He has added H, W, E, R, D, K, L, M, B, C, X, and U.  He loves to "read" HEB (although he pronounces it more like "HchB" or "HgB"). He astonished his doctor when we told her that after his 16th month check up, we counted up and had about 300 words.  Speaking of his 18-month check up, Michael is about 26 1/2 pounds and 33 1/2 INCHES TALL.  If he gains 2 1/2 more inches by his birthday, he should be 6 foot tall as a man!

From Daddy-
Today was a good day, some real quality time with my son. Tiff wasn't feeling well, so I left work early, grabbed the little guy, and went out to find UP 844 on its way in from Hearne. We had the windows down and sunroof open most for the way from Round Rock to Taylor. Michal just kept laughing and saying "WIND!". We caught 844 just as it was hitting the west end of the yard in Taylor. I told Michel to look for the train, and he saw a real steam engine for the first time. I don't think he like hearing the whistle so up close though. As we paced it out of town, he said  "Hot! Hot! Burn you!" as the 844 wound up (as much as they could this trip) and started putting out more smoke. I told him he was right, that inside it was very hot so it could make steam. We pulled ahead around Covert Ford in Hutto, and I pulled into a parking lot so he could see the train go past crossing guards he talks about so much. 844 was loafing along at 25-30 MPH due to the flat spots on its wheels, so we easily caught up by Dell Diamond, and Michael observed that the train was slow. But the best part was when we stopped on McNeil road at I-35. The train was creeping on to the GRR connection and we were going to be there a while. I pulled him out of his car seat and held him up to see and hear the steamer as it went around the curve. All he had to say was "Cool! Cool!".

We got home, ate dinner with Tiff, and before Michael got done, I went out and started some of the sprinklers. After he got done, he came out to "help" me water our meager veggie garden in the front and then he just stood outside in the sprinklers. Not where he got all the way wet like he used to when he would almost stand on the sprinkler head, but where he was at the tip end of each sprinkler's arc, where the was getting gently showered with a few drops of water. Later he went out back, and did like he used to do, and stood RIGHT in front of a sprinkler and tried to drink from the hose as I watered the plants. But there was just a moment while we were still out front, while he was just standing in the middle of the lawn getting sprinkled by the sprinklers while Tiff and I watched that I thought, man, it really has been a special day.

Our...MY...New Car!

That is Michael's favorite 'jacket' - "Car!'

And Michael enjoying it!

OH! And that total count of words/phrases of the list I have been compiling, 290. And I know there are more that I keep forgetting to write down.  Let's just say, David and I have our work cut out for us!

Monday, February 13, 2012

On last Monday, Michael mastered his spoon! He figured out how to hold the bowl with his left hand and used the spoon in his right hand to use his spoon to 'soop' up his peas and corn. He's so awesome!

At the end of last week, Michael was typing and he was looking at the keyboard and he said 'P'.  I asked him to show me, and he did! Then he told me and showed me the letter 'O'!  16 months and he knows 2 letters by sight!

Oh, yeah! We have a new car!  Wahoo!  2012 Subaru Forester 2.5x Premium in Graphite, CVT with sports shift and a moon roof! I will try to post pictures by the end of the week.

And I am working on recording all the words Michael regularly says. I have filled up the front and back of a page with 4 columns on each side, so far.  According to some info the Dr. gave us at his last check up, the average toddler has about 4-5 words in addition to "mama" and "dada".  Haha...we aare so past that!
